The year 2023 was dominated by the concept of artificial intelligence (AI), as major tech companies integrated this technology into their range of products. This resulted in the introduction of new AI tools like chatbots, and even traditional organizations like Adobe and Microsoft embraced AI. The impact of AI is not limited to the tech industry, as it is also making significant advancements in the automotive sector. At the ongoing Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2024 in Las Vegas, Amazon and BMW have announced a collaboration that will bring AI into their operations. Learn more about this partnership.

The partnership between Amazon and BMW

As part of the partnership with Amazon Alexa, the Large Language Model (LLM) will be combined with the vehicle’s user manual. With this move, users can ask anything they want to know about their vehicle, and Alexa will answer it in no time, without you having to dig through the manual.

According to Amazon, this introduction of artificial intelligence is “a more natural way to get to know your new car.” Vehicle owners can ask questions about various vehicle systems such as ADAS, ESP, ABS, Infotainment and more. In addition to this, the AI system can change driving modes, adjust air conditioning settings, set music and much more with voice commands. It uses Alexa Custom Assistant technology (ACA), which can potentially remove complexity and minimize distractions in the car.

The move comes after Amazon and BMW announced a partnership to develop a customized BMW vehicle voice assistant with Alexa in September 2022.

Amazon says: “Your car is the perfect place for a voice assistant – and Amazon and BMW showed off what’s possible with new Alexa LLM-powered features. These new features offer a more natural way to get to know your new car and let it take certain actions for you.

The Amazon-BMW partnership is just one of the retail giant’s key announcements at the ongoing CES 2024 event.
